Why Taekwondo?

I had sat and watched my son train for two years when I decided I had to have a go. I was 39 years of age! So I don’t believe it when I am told “I’m too old to start”. During the intervening period Taekwondo has been central to my life and the life of my family. Over that period I have become a regular member of the British National Poomse squad, achieved various Dan promotions and become an instructor. I have been lucky enough to have had many reasons to be proud of club members, but I was proudest when my youngest son was promoted to 3rd Dan aged 13 years.

Why is Taekwondo so important to me?

I have gained immensely from my training, and I want others to benefit in the same way.   I firmly believe that Taekwondo is for all. The disciplined training is good for students of all ages, male and female. I have seen many students develop over the years. I try, through my teaching, and by example to help students:-

  • Develop self confidence
  • Become fitter
  • Be able to defend themselves
  • Respect themselves and others
  • Make new friends

No matter who you are or what your circumstances, Taekwondo can offer benefits to you. I have seen the positive affect within the community over and over again.  It is this breadth of opportunity and benefit that keeps me interested in Taekwondo as a student and instructor.
